Madhuri Sharma, MD
Founder, Flow Integrative Medicine

Dr. Madhuri Sharma spent her childhood in Wilmington, DE, and attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.  She completed her family medicine residency at The University of Virginia, where she served as Chief Resident.  After residency, she completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Arizona, and has completed several additional trainings in yoga therapy and Ayurveda.

Over the last decade, she has been privileged to work as a leader in a variety of primary care settings across the country. She has been a partner in a community-based private practice, worked at a large managed care organization, developed guidelines to deliver care exclusively via telemedicine, and most recently was a medical director at a Federally Qualified Health Center.  She has witnessed an erosion in the patient-physician relationship due to significant interference by third-parties, and is dedicated to changing how primary care is viewed and practiced in the US.  By removing the middlemen and positioning the primary care physician as the patient's partner, Dr. Sharma supports patients to be proactive and holistic in their approach to true health and wellness.  She loves taking care of entire families, and exploring how family and community dynamics can impact health.  She is passionate about creating community around wellness, and hopes Flow Integrative Medicine can be a place where people connect, have fun, and learn from each other.

In her first job after residency, she recognized a need to teach patients how to be confident cooking with plants and spices.  She co-founded Masala Meals with her mom and sister and had so much fun teaching how to cook simple, flavorful plant-based food.  After the premature birth of her twins, she experienced first-hand the importance of nourishing the gut, and the profound health effects it can have in not only babies, but adults-alike.  This further fueled her passion to teach others how simple lifestyle choices can positively influence health.  She focuses on modifying nutrition, sleep, movement, and stress with all of her patients, and uses prescription medications, herbs, and supplements only as needed.

Currently, Dr. Sharma is pursuing training via the Institute of Functional Medicine, and plans to complete her certification as a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner.  In addition, she is in the process of completing an 800-hr yoga therapy training program at Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda.

Dr. Sharma is very excited to return to her hometown and connect with her community!  Her motivation is her husband and three young children - she wants to continue laughing, learning, and playing with them for as long as possible.
